If I could hear these scores performed live I would be happy forever

The Lord of the Rings (Howard Shore)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (Klaus Badelt)

Avatar (James Horner)

The Shawshank Redemption (Thomas Newman)

Memoirs of A Geisha (John Williams)

The Lion King/Sherlock Holmes/Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (Hans Zimmer)

Cast Away gets a P.S. because the end theme is pretty much the only piece of music in the film and therefore can’t count as an entire score.

Star Wars is not included because I have seen it live already (though I would absolutely pay to see it again).

I missed out on the Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers but you can bet I’ll be in NY for The Return of the King.

I have 11 hours of Lord of the Rings music.

That’s essentially every waking moment of one day.

11.

HOURS.

Tea and books, tea and books, here are some nerdy highlights from Christmas (Newton-mas) 2011

(P.S. Normally I don’t appreciate film adaptation cover redesigns, but I’ll always make exceptions for Sean Bean)

I also got an Ireland calendar which is definitely going to make me cry at least once next term, especially since Cork is my birthday month.

Will there ever be anything in my life as glorious as the Lord of the Rings score?

“The SHIRE theme drifts warmly in its finality behind the four friends. The flute has now replaced the whistle entirely in this theme, its chipper simplicity lost to the passing Age…The four chords of the SHIRE’s HYMN SETTING are hummed again by the chorus, and the hobbits cry tears of pain for their loss, tears of joy for their friends, and tears of release for the bygone age and their changing lives.”
