I’ve never really understood New Year’s Resolutions. We make them, we break them, and they seem to just make us feel bad about ourselves when the inevitable happens. In my opinion, it would be better to accept who we are, and learn to live with that and roll with any changes as they occur instead of trying to force ourselves to change because it’s the first day of the next year on a made-up...

I gotta say, one of the more positive things about being a poor college student is that I can’t really afford junk food. So when I eat, it’s relatively healthily.
But then I return home. Where my teenage brother lives and survives on junk. And returning home usually means holidays and holidays mean baked goods.
The result is lunches like the one I’m eating now: a brownie, kiffles, and Pringles.

One Year Ago Tonight/Tomorrow
I was sitting on a plane, trying my best to look excited, as I embarked upon the most terrifyingly rewarding experience of my life so far.
Here’s the airport I thought I would NEVER leave:
Here is the airplane that seemed to fly around the world twice while I was waiting to land:
Here is the sunrise on the first day of my big adventure:
And here is a first glimpse of my home for...

A Mother’s Christmas Request to her Tech Savvy...
When you come home for Christmas please:
Leave the cell phone in another room when coming to the dinner table, especially when it is Christmas dinner. We of the previous generation find it rude to have our dinners interrupted by the vibrating and singing cell phones. Besides if your girlfriend cannot wait 30 minutes to talk to you, Grandma will deem her needy and unfit for you.
Remember that...

If you guessed “Die Hard”, you win!
If you guessed “Home Alone”, you also win!

So, Terra Nova.
They killed one of my favorite characters. Still not sure why that was necessary. Still not sure why I am so attached to people I’ve watched for 12 episodes.
I’m tired of women being killed to advance plot. But I’m also upset because we had some pretty strong female characters (as strong as you can be in such a short, and possible solitary, season) and now one of them is dead.

I just wrote the last two paragraphs of a paper that I should have finished two days ago. It took me literally 20 minutes. Now I’m rewarding myself with 2 hours of Star Wars on Spike TV.
What happened to my motivation from the beginning of the week!? I need you for two more days!

Me: So Pop-Pop, how about that Terra Nova?
G-ma: Oh are you watching it too? How do you like it?
Me: I like it a lot. I like the dinosaurs. And the wardrobe choices. And Stephen Lang.
G-ma: Who’s that? Is he the young one?
Me: No, he’s the old one.
G-pa: The one from Avatar.
G-ma: Are you still into old men!? How are you ever going to have children?!
Her first (and most consistent) delusion is that I want children....
